Château la Mothaye
Discover the Enchanting Château la Mothaye Estate
Nestled within an expansive 36-hectare estate, Château la Mothaye offers a breathtaking setting of lush forests, rolling meadows, a serene pond, and the historic château park.
At the heart of this idyllic landscape stands the elegant Château la Mothaye, dating back to 1830, surrounded by charming outbuildings and a delightful swimming pool.
Together with the tourist office we were able to make the beautiful “promotional video” below, it gives a good impression of the domain and the accommodations (in our best French).
photos de La Mothaye

In 1189 Pierre de Brion bought the then La Mothaie (or La Mottais), which until then had been part of the possessions of a 12th century monastery. At that time it was not yet a castle, but a manor and was inhabited by various families until Gabriel Delaunay, a nobleman, acquired the estate in 1792.
During the French Revolution the Delaunay family fled the country to England. Leaving behind (in exchange for safe conduct) the manor, the estate, and the 5 farms around it. At the beginning of 1800 he returned to France with his family and bought La Mothaye again.
On the site of the old manor Delaunay built the current chateau in 1830. Only the old chapel dates from the period before that and dates from 1732 or 1720.

This blog, created by one of the former owners, contains (in French) a lot of history about the chateau and its former owners:
